Lithuanian president goes to US to accept honorary doctorate from Georgetown University

Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė is leaving for the United States on Thursday, where she will accept an honorary doctorate award from Georgetown University.

According to the congratulatory message from Georgetown University, the Lithuanian president is awarded for her "transparency, truth and responsibility." The title is awarded to outstanding individuals and leaders in their respective fields, namely, prominent politicians, scientists, writers, and artists.

The oldest higher education institution in the US, Georgetown University is also the largest university of international relations in the world. The Lithuanian president studied at the university in 1992.

During her visit, Grybauskaitė is scheduled to meet with John Boehner, speaker of the US House of Representatives, and Edward Royce, chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the US House of Representatives.
