Lithuanian Prime Minister positive about outgoing pope's role

Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius says that the outgoing Pope Benedict XVI played a positive role in the life of the Church and the public. Social democrat Butkevičius also commends the pope's decision to resign.

"I evaluate positively and believe that his decision is an example that if there are certain problems or issues that might not be resolved due to objective reasons, you just resign honorably and give the post to others," Butkevičius said in an interview to the Žinių Radijas (news Radio) on Thursday.

Benedict XVI resigns on Thursday night, having said he is unable to carry on with the papacy due to his age and poor health.
