On Monday, the prime minister is scheduled to visit the port of Turkmenbashi where he will take a tour around the local oil complex and meet with the Turkmenbashi governor, according to a statement by the Lithuanian government's press service.
During the visit, Butkevičius is to meet Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov, members of the parliament and attend the opening of a Lithuanian-Turkmenistan business forum.
"Turkmenistan is a growing and perspective market for Lithuanian investments, therefore, we need to build cooperation routes to this Central Asian region rich with natural gas. We also need to consider opportunities for supply of alternative energy resources to Lithuania," Butkevičius said on the eve of the visit.
During the prime minister's visit, Lithuania and Turkmenistan are scheduled to sign a treaty on the avoidance of double taxation of income and capital as well as on the prevention of tax avoidance and economic cooperation.
Lithuanian-Turkmenistan trade turnover grew by 46 percent last year, compared to 2011. The export of Lithuanian goods to Turkmenistan was up by 66 percent.
Turkmenistan is the fourth in the world in terms of natural gas resources and is among top ten cotton producers in the world.
The Lithuanian premier is scheduled to return to Vilnius on Wednesday.
