Lithuanians think free movement is EU's greatest benefit

Lithuanians say free movement is the greatest benefit of the European Union, according to a new survey published on Thursday.

Free movement of persons, goods and services was named as the greatest benefit of the EU by 70 percent of people surveyed in Lithuania. And 42 percent named peace among EU member states as the second most important benefit, according to market and media research company TNS LT which carried out the Eurobarometer survey.

Lithuania is among countries that are optimistic about the prospect of the EU, with as many as 64 percent of people in Lithuania being optimistic about the prospect of the Community. The percentage is only higher in Denmark and Estonia. Meanwhile, Portugal, Cyprus and Greece are at the bottom of the list.

1,029 people took part in the Eurobarometer survey in Lithuania in May.
