In 2013, the OECD plans to open talks with Colombia while and Latvia, Lithuania, and Costa Rica should join the process gradually later, Foreign Ministry said in a press release.

“We believe that the organization has demonstrated shared values and showed an example of effective activities by issuing a green light for new enlargement. This decision will become a starting point for further significant changes within the OECD,” the press release quoted Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius as saying.

Lithuania’s cooperation with the OECD dates back to 1996 when the country signed a joint declaration with Estonia and Latvia expressing willingness to become full members of the organization. Estonia joined the organization, often dubbed the rich country club, in 2010.
