"Peaceful, non-threatening to other neighbors and gradual integration of former Soviet countries into the EU, in our opinion, matches interests of nations of the whole "great Europe," the party leaders said in a letter to the Government of Lithuania.

According to a statement issued by the Lithuanian government on Wednesday, the letter was signed by Sergey Mitrokhin, Sergey Kovalyov, Grigory Yavlinsky, Olga Tsepilova and Viktor Kogan-Yasnykh.

They hope that the EU Eastern Partnership Summit, planned in Vilnius in November, will bring positive changes in the region. The EU Eastern Partnership program is aimed at promoting closer political and economic relations with Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine.

"We hope the presidency to be fruitful. A very important Eastern Partnership meeting is planned for November. The event and the development of the program in the right direction might lead to political changes in the whole region, help avoid military solutions where they are still possible," the letter reads.
