Six men awarded Lithuanian National Culture and Art Prizes

Six Lithuanian artists and authors will be awarded Lithuanian National Culture and Art Prizes, it has been announced at a press conference at the Ministry of Culture on Monday.

The winners include sculptor Vladas Vildžiūnas, literary critic Kęstutis Nastopka, architect Eugenijus Miliūnas, conductor Modestas Pitrėnas, artist Žilvinas Kempinas, and scenographer Vitalijus Mazūras.

Lithuanian National Culture and Art Prizes are awarded in recognition of the most significant works produced by Lithuanian artists in the course of the last seven years, as well as for their long-lasting contribution to culture and art. The National Awards are conferred annually before 15 December and awarded on 16 February, the Day of Re-establishment of the State of Lithuania, at the Presidential Palace of the Republic of Lithuania.

Winners receive a diploma of the National Culture and Art Prize, a commemorative token, and a monetary prize (LTL 104,000; EUR 29,700).

The National Prizes have been awarded annually since 1989. As many as 177 prominent creators have received the National Prize since then.
