"It reminds me of the really bad period, it’s the Cold War, Soviet Union legacy is reflected in these events. The key to solution is in such countries as Russia and China which are blocking the adoption of necessary decisions at the United Nations for the massacre of people to be stopped and for the process to move in the other direction," the minister told the Žiniu Radijas (News Radio).
Juknevičienė believes Moscow's position is determined by the fact that Russia's military bases are still present in Syria. The minister also said she believed that any solution would be impossible without the approval of the United Nations.
Russia is one of the most active supporters of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad over the last 17 months since an uprising against his regime broke out.
