"Three Lithuanian soldiers who were on a patrol mission in a cross-country vehicle were injured during an explosion of an unidentified explosive device. The injured soldiers were taken to a war hospital, their lives are not in danger," the ministry said in a press release.
The incident occurred at about 11 AM Lithuanian time, families of the injured soldiers have been notified.
All three serve in the Special Operations Squadron of the NATO International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in southern Afghanistan.
Stationed in southern Afghanistan in 2007, the squadron performs special reconnaissance tasks. The precise number of soldiers is withheld, but it is said to be “up to one hundred” at any given time.
The majority of Lithuanian troops – about 150 – serve in the calmer Ghor province, where Lithuania heads a Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT).
