Two thirds of Lithuanian families affected by emigration

Two thirds of Lithuanian residents have close relatives and friends who have emigrated, shows a survey published on delfi.lt news portal.

According to the poll, 64.8 percent of the respondents said they had members in their families who were in emigration or had already returned, while merely 35 percent said none of their family members were looking for better life abroad.

Nearly 15 percent said their children live abroad, 12.1 percent said they had siblings in emigration, and nearly 19 percent said their more distant relatives, for instance, grandchildren, had emigrated.

Main emigration destinations include Great Britain (38.3 percent), Ireland (25.4 percent) and Norway (16.5 percent).

Somewhat fewer of the relatives live in the United States (7.4 percent) and Germany (7 percent).

The poll for delfi.lt was carried out by Spinter Tyrimai (Spinter Surveys) on June 17-25.
