Žalgiris Kaunas basketball club will not play in VTB League

Lithuanian basketball club Žalgiris Kaunas will not play in the 2013-2014 season of the VTB United League, the club hsd announced on Monday, citing a busy play schedule as the main reason.

"We explained to the league that we play two rounds instead of one in the Lithuanian Basketball League. Also, as of the start of this year, all clubs that don't get into the Euroleague's TOP 16 will continue their fight in the Eurocup, therefore, in any case our season in Europe will not be short," Žalgiris director Paulius Motiejūnas was quoted as saying in a statement.

"We will have to play two games every week, so it has become impossible to also adjust to the VTB United League's schedule," he said.
