His resignation has been accepted by the supervisory board and it has further been agreed that Mr Beļavskis supports the Bank during transitional period until June 1, 2020. Management Board changes will take place from March 2, 2020.

During Mr Beļavskis time, Citadele has gone through a major transition from failing bank with high risk business into a modern and strong Baltic bank servicing local business and private individuals.

As from March 2, 2020, Johan Akerblom, currently CFO of the Bank, has been appointed acting Chairman of the Management Board. Mr Akerblom joined the Bank two years ago and has since then successfully supported the Banks strategy and financial performance.

Johan Akerblom: “The Bank and the Management team thanks Guntis for many years of leadership and close collaboration and we are confident in a continued positive development of the Bank. We also feel that the transition will be smooth and that Guntis will continue to be part of the Citadele family as a loyal customer and ambassador.”

Guntis Beļavskis: “I have been looking to spend more time in developing exciting entrepreneurship opportunities related to several new businesses, this is a chance to use my knowledge in a new way, which was my aspiration for some time.

I am very proud of what I have achieved together with my team. Citadele has gone through a complete turnaround from failing bank with high risk business into completely modern, strong Baltic bank, serving local businesses and individuals.

2019 is best financial year since Citadele’s inception. Best customer service, highest customer loyalty for banking business, highest ranked mobile app, all this and more will make it a very exciting for me to observe bright future of the Bank as a loyal customer and ambassador.

I hand over to a team of experienced executives, who, under guidance from amazing and reputable shareholders, are eager to take it to Baltic and Beyond Champion’s title.

In the transition period I will ensure that my duties are professionally handed over to Johan and the Team, as well as forward my customer contacts to new Head of Corporate Vaidas Zagunis, who starts today as Management Board member.

I want to say huge Thank You for all of those dedicated, smart and loyal colleagues and all Citadele customers, who have been an inspiration to me for many years.

I appreciate Supervisory Board for their dedicated support throughout my career and for accepting my resignation”
