Ignitis Group started generating electricity in Poland

International energy company Ignitis Group started generating electricity in Poland using a locally developed Pomerania wind farm. After technical tests were completed, energy generated by one of the largest wind farms of its kind in Poland was distributed to the network. It is estimated that the wind farm with a capacity of 94 MW will commence continuous operations after completing the launch coordination, construction procedures and after receiving generation permit.

Marking a rapid international development, Pomerania wind farm is the first project of its kind developed by Ignitis Group abroad. It is also the first wind farm, which was developed by the Group from its inception. This farm comprises 29 wind farms with a nominal capacity ranging from 3 MW to 3.3 MW per turbine.

“The launch of electricity generation by Pomerania wind farm is signaling another completed stage of an important project to Ignitis Group and Poland as well as the determination to strengthen our position in a strategically important Polish market. This farm will contribute to a more sustainable and greener strategy of Ignitis Group and ensure stable return for all our shareholders, including the State of Lithuania”, said Darius Maikštėnas, CEO and Management Board Chair at Ignitis Group.

Pomerania Wind Farm had won a feed-in tariff in Poland‘s auction for renewable energy projects. The feed-in tariff will be awarded to the wind farm for the period of 15 years.

It is estimated that during the 30 years of operation of the wind farm, the undiscounted adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) will amount to EUR 440m. Total investments into Pomerania wind farm reaches approximately EUR 130m.

It is estimated that the wind farm will generate approx. 300 GWh of electricity per year – such amount of electricity is able to cover the demand of almost 160,000 households.
