This fifteenth century composition of Swami Tulsidas is in praise of Lord Shiva as the Vedic God Rudra. Four of the eight cantos (verses) are taken in this dance rendering that describes the qualities, deeds, attributes and motifs associated with Lord Shiva. In this piece, the episode of ‘sati – dahan’ ie immolation of Sati, the first wife of Lord Shiva, is delineated as gat-bhava. The dance piece climaxes in a dynamic Shiva paran tandava.
