Storm Hannah Go Around & Aborted Landings in Strong Wind at Manchester Airport! 27/4/19

2019-05-02 21:28
A rather unsettled and unseasonable day in late April, the latest storm of the 2018/2019 season, Hannah, has been battering the UK and Ireland for the past couple of days. Winds of over 60 knots reported in places. As per the norm with me, and my questionable decision making I opted to brave the downpours and gusting winds all in the name of providing some quality aviation entertainment. Winds at MAN were steady at around 22 knots gusting up to 36 knots, offset from the centreline by about 60 degrees or so, and with about 20 degrees of variance either side. This paired with poor visibility and lashing rain showers made for interesting rocking approaches, have to say as always a fantastic display of piloting skill on show today. In the midst of the action there ended up being two go arounds, both completely unrelated to the weather and infact due to traffic on the runway, still not complaing as they were both very low and looked brilliant!
