The very title of this ballet, "Acid City", permits a host of different interpretations, including both a certain style of electronic dance music and the urban atmosphere of a present-day European megapolis. This is a story of the 21st-century city, its genius loci, conveyed in musical sounds and movement. This is a ballet about what the city is so addictive and dangerous for, about how in a frantic rhythm of the city life one can still find unexpected oases of closeness and intimacy. Stylistic context of the club dance music and a prestigious theatrical stage, aesthetics of the DJs' epoch and acoustic sound of a symphony orchestra -- such, in short, are the apparently impossible juxtapositions of this ballet. "Acid City" is a contemporary ballet, contemporary music for a contemporary audience.
Hailed as "best stage work of the year" by the music professionals in 2002, "Acid City" garnered Mindaugas Urbaitis the Ministry of Culture Prize of 2002/2003.
