A Lithuanian tenor Edgaras Montvidas (b. 1975; till 2001 Prudkauskas) graduated from the Lithuanian Musical Academy, Virgilijus Noreika’s class, in 2001. In 2001-2003 he was a member of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden Young Artists Programme, where he debuted with Alfredo, Arminio and other roles. Since then, his popularity has spread wide across Europe. Montvidas performed in Frankfurt Opera, Bayerische Staatopera, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Lyon Opera, Opéra National de Bordeaux, Santa Fe Opera, Cincinatti Opera and many others; he also sang with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, major orchestras in Lithuania, the Russian National Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra and others. In 2009, Montvidas was decorated with the ‘Golden Cross of the Stage‘, the highest award given to the theatre professionals in Lithuania, in 2014 the soloist was medalled with The Order for Merits to Lithuania. He is a leading performer in the independent Vilnius City Opera (director Dalia Ibelhauptaitė) where he played Rodolfo, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Werther, Lensky, Edgaro in Così fan tutte, and Faust.
