Listen to Jóhann Jóhannsson’s beautiful track ‘Odi et Amo’ – now available remastered on the new double album ‘Englabörn & Variations’ on Deutsche Grammophon. Shortly before his passing, Jóhannsson completed a new record: 'Englabörn & Variations'. With this, now seeming like a parting gift, Jóhannsson reinterpreted pieces of his 2002 debut album 'Englabörn' and invited other artists he admired to do the same. Like Catullus 85, from which the famous verse Odi et Amo (I hate and I love) is taken, Jóhannsson’s record articulates a succession of emotional states. At times it’s almost jaunty, ushered towards certainty by pattering drums, while at others there’s an air of defiance but it never shakes off its elegiac mood.
