Score Study II is the second in a series of works that investigate the generation of music in real-time from tactile braille notated surfaces. By exploring the Braille score through touch, the user generates the composition, hearing the fragments of notation combining and recombining as they read them.
Tactus has been conceived as an exploration of haptic sound generating surfaces and the potential that this medium might afford for a communicative artwork for the visually impaired. The scores celebrate both the braille music notation system of Louis Braille and the ongoing importance of reading and writing for the blind.
The scores are designed both as an interweaving of the auditory and haptic, and as a questioning of the nature of art objects and their presentation in galleries and museums.
This film documents the installation of 'Score Study II' from the Tactus series at London Printworks Trust, Brixton from the 9th to the 15th February 2012.
