The minister welcomed Gazprom’s stance to drop opposition to the implementation of the European Union’s (EU) Third Energy Package.
“As far as the Third Energy Package and unbundling negotiations are concerned, I must say that we are in a very specific, concrete and constructive discussion now, which is a welcome change from the beginning,” the minister told reporters from Brussels while speaking about the situation in the Lithuanian energy sector and Lithuania’s priorities during the EU Council presidency.
“We don’t see opposition to introducing unbundling from our partner side any more, which is also a welcome change of position. We are now discussing the practicalities how to implement the unbundling in a formal way,” Neverovič said.
With the unbundling reform in the gas sector implemented in Lithuania, gas transmission pipelines of Lietuvos Dujos (Lithuanian Gas), the Lithuanian gas import and supply company that is 37-percent owned by Gazprom, will be spun off into a new company.
