Finland’s Hesburger plans to invest at least EUR 4.35 mln in mayonnaise plant in Kaunas

Finland ’s fast-food chain Hesburger plans to invest at least 15 million litas (EUR 4.35 mln) in a mayonnaise plant, which it intends to build in Kaunas, Lithuania’s second-biggest city.

Hes-Pro Vilnius, the operator of Hesburger’s chain in Lithuania, has applied for 2.5 million litas in the European Union’s (EU) support for the construction of the facility. The company said in its application that the investments in this project would reach at least 15.1 million litas, data published on the website esparama.lt has shown.

Lithuania had been chosen for building a new mayonnaise plant due to its favorable geographic location, Hesburger said.

“Taking into consideration our planned further expansion in the Baltic countries, Russia, Ukraine, Germany and our planned entry in Poland’s market, Lithuania’s position is the most convenient as far as supplies are concerned,” it explained.

In 2011, Herburger’s sales in Lithuania rose by 38 percent, year-on-year, to around 25 million litas.
