France’s „Areva“ may help Belarus in building new nuclear facility

A subsidiary of France’s Areva plans to present long-term experience of the nuclear energy technology concern at the upcoming nuclear energy conference in Minsk. However, it denies that it has any specific plans pertaining to the construction of a nuclear power plant in Belarus, the Verslo Zinios business daily reports on Thursday.

Rolf Janke, director for strategy and technical development at Areva’s German subsidiary, intends to deliver a speech on Areva’s potential in building a nuclear power plant in Belarus at the conference due on Apr. 2.

“Areva has long-term experience in supplying the devices, management systems and additional safety means for the nuclear reactors of Russian design,” Stefan Pursche, a PR representative of Areva, told the Lithuanian daily when asked about Areva’s specific contribution to the implementation of the nuclear power plant project in Belarus.

“Except for the presentation of our long-term experience, we do not have any specific projects planned in Belarus now,” he said in a letter to the daily.
