Germany ’s retailer Lidl is expected to build a store – presumably, its first Lithuanian store – in Kaunas, Lithuania’s second-biggest city.

Mantas Burokas, a representative for Lidl, could not tell BNS when the construction works would be launched. He said, however, that the design works were ongoing.

Meanwhile, the local authority of Kaunas said on its website that the construction works should be launched in 2015 or 2016.

As reported previously, Lidl invested 3.6 million litas (EUR 1.04 mln) in acquisition of properties and land plots in Lithuania last year.

The retailer reportedly planned to invest up to 700 million litas in Lithuania. Previously Lidl was interested in a possibility to invest in a Baltic distribution center in the free economic zone of Kaunas.
