H&M to open store at Vilnius' Gedimino 9 mall next March

Sweden's retail clothing chain Hennes & Mauritz (H&M) is planning to open another store in Lithuania, at the Gedimino 9 shopping mall, on March 8, 2014, according to East Capital, the investment company that is renovating the building in Vilnius main shopping street, has said.

"March 8 was not picked by chance; it is International Women's Day, which is one of the most important holidays of the year in Eastern Europe," Peter Elam Hakansson, the fund's chairman and founding partner, said in this week's newsletter to investors.

He did not say how large the store would be.

H&M opened its first Lithuanian store at Vilnius' Akropolis mall in August and is set to open one at Klaipėda's Akropolis on September 21. The chain has said that next year it is planning to open stores at Vilnius' Gedimino 9, Panorama and Ozas shopping centers and at Akropolis in Šiauliai.

East Capital is currently one of Lithuania's largest foreign investors, with a total of 665 million Swedish kronor (EUR 77m) invested, according to Hakansson.
