Daiva Rimašauskaitė, chief adviser to the energy minister, confirmed to the daily that “an independent operating efficiency audit” was being carried out at Klaipėda Oil “in order to determine the efficiency of certain large-scale deals, which raised doubts among the public”.
Those deals include the acquisition of a Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) for the future liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal. Some left-wing politicians accused Klaipėdos Nafta and former government of acquiring the vessel, which will be owned by the Norwegians and is currently being built in South Korea, at too high a price.
Sources told the daily that the audit was being carried out by the company Glimstedt. It was launched last week and should be completed by the end of August.
According to the sources, potential candidates to replace Masiulis include Arūnas Laurinaitis, former president of Achema, Benediktas Petrauskas, CEO of Klaipėda Passenger and Cargo Terminal, which is part of Achemos Grupė (Achema Group), as well as Alenas Gumuliauskas, director of internal audit at Orlen Lietuva.
