The decision came after a Polish institution published an additional list of unsafe products, which now contains a total of 33 different types of sweets, mainly waffles and waffle tubes.
"We are forced to take strict measures to protect our consumers, as the information received from Poland is extremely incomplete and constantly changes, furthermore, we are late to receive official information from the European Commission's (EC) Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF)," deputy director of the State Food and Veterinary Service Zenonas Stanevičius said.
In his words, it is highly unprofessional that all countries of the European Union have been informed about only nine unsafe product, while the official information published in Poland specified a much larger list of products.
"We know that discontent about the situation has been expressed by Poland's other neighbors – the Czech Republic and Slovakia," Stanevičius told BNS.
