Latvia and Estonia could join the nuclear facility project if it was economically feasible, Lithuania’s government said in a press release.

“The informal meeting of the Baltic Council of Ministers has agreed to continue search for solutions as regards the continuity of the Visaginas nuclear facility project, and to look in particular whether the project will be viable. Discussions will continue at the level of the regional partners’ companies and experts. The findings and conditions put forward by a task group formed by the Lithuanian government will be taken into account. Sound distribution of the nuclear facility project’s costs, responsibilities and related risks shall be ensured,” the press release quoted Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius as saying.

Butkevičius took part in the Baltic Development Forum in Riga and in the informal meeting of the Baltic Council of Ministers on Thursday.

The leaders of Estonia’s and Latvia’s governments said that the countries could join the nuclear facility project if it were economically feasible.
