On Wednesday, the situation was discussed by the parliamentary Committee on Economics.
Issue of TIR Carnets in Russia had declined by one fourth after the tightening of checks on freight traffic from Lithuania, Algimantas Kondrusevičius, president of the Lithuanian national road carriers’ association, Linava, told the committee members.
“The number of TIR [Carnets] being issued has declined by one-fourth,” he said adding that the same regime would be applied at Russia’s borders with Poland and other Baltic countries.
Jonas Milius, the director of the Lithuanian State Food and Veterinary Service, told the MPs that the dairy companies planned to stop the supply of their products to the neighboring country as they had a short shelf life.
He pointed out that Lithuania had not received a single notification from Russia’s authorities about the detection of antibiotics in Lithuanian dairy products in the past three years.
“We have not received any official document from any Russian authorities,” Milius said.
