Environmental effects of shale gas extraction sparked discussions in the US as well, US Ambassador to Lithuania, Deborah McCarthy, said.

“I understand that these resources bring up environmental questions. The same discussions took place the US. We want to share our experience,” she said during the discussion of the key goals and challenges of the current Lithuanian government organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Lithuania on Tuesday.

The ambassador said that she supported Lithuania’s key energy projects.

“Diversification is the key to energy security,” she said.

The United States supported regional efforts to liberalize the electricity market and step up supply diversification, McCarthy said on Monday after a meeting with Lithuania’s Energy Minister Jaroslav Neverovic.
