Western Union set to expand further in Lithuania

Global money transfer giant Western Union, which launched operations in Lithuania two years ago, is planning further expansion, Jan Hillered, the company's senior vice-president for Europe and the CIS, has said in Vilnius on Wednesday.

"We remain committed to expanding our operations here and investing in the Lithuania center," Hillered was quoted as saying in a press release.

Western Union sees its investment in Lithuania as one of the best decisions ever made by the company, he said.

The company has already created 900 new jobs since the launch of its European regional operating center in Vilnius two years ago.

Following the signing of an investment agreement with the Lithuanian government in 2010, Western Union formally opened the center in May 2011. The company said that it would invest 20 million litas (EUR 5.8m) in the first three years of operation.
