"The EU-Canada free trade treaty should be initialed during Lithuania's EU Council presidency," the parliament said in a press release circulated after members of the parliamentary European Affairs Committee met with the joint delegation of the Canadian parliamentary group for friendship with the Baltic states and the EU-Canada Association.

According to the press release, the negotiations on the pact should be completed by the end of Ireland's EU Council presidency.

The EU-Canada negotiations on free trade were opened in May 2009. Lithuania will preside over the EU council in July-December this year.
