Minister of the Interior Dailis Alfonsas Barakauskas and Minister of Justice Juozas Bernatonis will attend a meeting of the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council, and Minister of Transport and Communications Rimantas Sinkevičius and Minister of Energy Jaroslav Neverovič will attend a meeting of the EU Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.
Barakauskas will attend a discussion on a proposal to merge the European Police Office and the European Police College. This new initiative is aimed at stepping up Europol's efficiency in collecting and processing of information and sharing the results of analysis with member states.
"During the Lithuanian EU presidency, the European Commission's proposed initiative on reforming these law enforcement agencies will be discussed and attempts will be made to coordinate the positions of all member states, the European Commission, and the European Parliament on the issue," the minister said.
On Thursday, Transport and Communications Minister Sinkevičius will present the Lithuanian EU presidency's priorities in the areas of communications and information society.
"We will focus on legislative proposals aimed at building trust in the EU economy and lead to the creation of a dynamic digital single market," the transport minister said.
In his words, Lithuania will seek agreement on a regulation for trans-European communication networks, and will also seek creation of a basis for safe, trustworthy, and easy online transactions.
Energy Minister Neverovič said the focus in the area he is in charge of would be on the creation of a single EU energy market and strengthening the energy policy's external dimension.
The Council is scheduled to adopt conclusions on an EC communiqué highlighting issues important for Lithuania, including the eradication of energy islands and energy isolation, the expansion of energy infrastructure through the implementation of Projects of Common Interest in energy and the integration of the Baltic states' energy systems into the networks of continental Europe.
On Friday, Justice Minister Bernatonis will take part in discussion on key elements of the General Data Protection Regulation.
The Irish EU presidency wants achieved progress to be confirmed by highlighting the principle of transparency and the selection of a data protection level based on the method of the risk-based attitude. It would allow data subjects to better control their personal data and also ensure proportionate corporate obligations.
Ministers will also hold discussions on a proper balance of rights and interests of creditors and debtors in the proposed regulation on the creation of the European account preservation order.
