In his words, the Lithuanian national Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-LT) will play a key role in ensuring cyber security.
"We may face all kinds of attacks. Please remember the hacking of the presidency website on the first day of the Spanish presidency over the community. CERT-LT cannot ensure constant protection against online incidents, as it does not have sufficient human resources for round-the-clock coverage. To correct the situation, the government should establish a few additional positions," he said.
Paulauskas recalled that the parliamentary panel last year suggested that the government should consider CERT-LT's inability to perform uninterrupted operations 24/7. In his words, the problem was never addressed, although a solution merely requires four additional positions.
Lithuania will hold EU presidency for six months starting on July 1. During the presidency, Lithuania will host more than 200 meetings including over 20 top-level meetings (among them – 15 informal meetings of ministers), more than 160 expert-level meetings, and 12 parliamentary events organized by the parliament and about 70 meetings organized by social partners.
