"We will deal with the so-called EU-Switzerland issues which are a bit more sensitive, including trade issues, free citizen movement as well as tax issues. But these are timeless, long and rather sensitive issues we manage to periodically discuss more, sometimes resolve, and sometimes we don't," Grybauskaitė told journalists on Monday after meeting with visiting Swiss President Ueli Maurer.
"Through constant dialogue, we can find solutions step by step, perhaps in a slow, not that fast way as we would like it to be, but those solutions are possible," she said.
According to Grybauskaitė, Lithuania plans to launch conversations in the areas of tax avoidance and data exchange.
"We talked with the president that these are sensitive issues and need to be resolved horizontally on the global scale, not only in terms of mutual relations between the EU and Switzerland, that such a level is not enough and the fact that these issues might not be resolved swiftly but we might need to start talks during our presidency," she said.
The Lithuanian president also thanked Switzerland for helping it to receive an invitation to start accession talks with Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development and receive support at the UN Security Council.
