Lithuanian EU presidency to seek closer cooperation with NATO

The Lithuanian EU Council presidency will seek to strengthen cooperation with NATO, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs said on Wednesday after meeting with Jean-Paul Palomeros, NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, currently on a visit to Vilnius.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, energy security, the Alliance's partnership policy and the Baltic air policing mission were discussed during the meeting.

Minister Linkevičius underlined that the transatlantic partnership remains a cornerstone of security and defense in Europe and North America, therefore, bilateral relations need to be further strengthened.

"Today, the European Union and NATO are united by common values, similar interests and the same objectives, therefore, the Lithuanian EU presidency will seek to intensify the political dialogue between these two organizations and expand practical cooperation between the EU and NATO," Linkevičius said.

Later in the day, the NATO general is scheduled to meet with Lithuanian Minister of National Defense Juozas Olekas.
