Lithuanian Prime Minister: Yulia Tymoshenko's release is key question for Ukraine

Lithuania's Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius says that the release of currently imprisoned ex-Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is the most important question for the country that wants to sign an Association Agreement with the European Union.

"The most important question right now is the release of Yulia Tymoshenko. And then the question in which direction Ukraine is moving: more towards Russia or towards the EU. At the moment it is unclear which path Ukraine has chosen. One day it’s one way, the next day another," the prime minister said in an interview with euractiv.com.

The EU is yet to decide as to whether to sign the agreement with Ukraine, criticized for selective justice, during the upcoming Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius later this year. The summit will take place under the Lithuanian EU presidency.
