Ukraine's EU Association Agreement impossible without releasing Yulia Tymoshenko, EP panel head says

Asked whether there was a possibility for Ukraineto sign the Association Agreement, if Tymoshenko is not released, Brok replied: "No."

The EU is yet to make a political decision in connection to signing the Association Agreement with Ukraine during the EU's Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius in November, as Ukraine is criticized for selective justice. The summit will take place in Vilnius in the framework of Lithuania's EU Council presidency.

"It’s the Tymoshenko case, it’s the question on the judicial reform, including the office of the general prosecutor, it's the election law – Kiev elections, main questions, they have time until October to settle these problems properly (…). I hope they will do that and that is a possibility to sign the Association Agreement, but they have to move for that," Brok said at the EP in Strasbourg after Lithuania's President Dalia Grybauskaitė presented Lithuanian presidency priorities.

In his words, "the ball now is on the Ukrainian garden."
