The police officers who guarded the action told BNS no incidents were reported during the sanctioned event.

The participants spoke against the proposals to allow bilingual place names and non-Lithuanian characters in the spelling of first and last names in official documents.

„The Lithuanian language is the official language, and this leads to a simple thing that the entry in the main page of the passport should be made in the official language only, as this is not a private matter,“ MP Valentinas Stundys of the opposition Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democratic Party (Conservatives) told journalists at the rally.

In recent conclusions, a government-formed task force headed by a member of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania proposed allowing non-Lithuanian characters of the Latin alphabet in personal names upon request.

The task force also suggested allowing bilingual location and street names but failed to specify a threshold of the population of a national minority in a specific location to allow the signs.
