Kaunas police said it had received information back in the summer of 2011 that a group of Kaunas residents were involved in large-scale amphetamine production and distribution.
Following a full-scale investigation, police located the lab and identified five suspects, aged 34-64, who were arrested on 1 June during a major police operation involving the anti-terrorist operation unit Aras.
Around 40 kilos of produced amphetamine, equipment and over 500 litres of chemical substances for drug production were found at the homestead. The drugs were worth around LTL 1.6 million (EUR 0.5 million) on the black market.
Searches were also carried out at various locations in Kaunas County, where around 2 tons of chemical substances were seized.
On 3 June, a Kaunas court sanctioned arrests of the suspects for two-to-three months. They all face jail terms of 10-15 years.
