Upon arrival at Vilnius International Airport, Uspaskich was greeted by a large crowd of supporters, showering him with flowers, kisses, and greetings on his past birthday.
Uspaskich flew to Russia shortly after a Vilnius court found him guilty of bookkeeping fraud on July 12. The court ruled that the bail of 500,000 litas (EUR 145,000) would remain in effect. His freedom of movement was not restricted.
MP Uspaskich was found guilty of bookkeeping fraud and sentenced to four years in prison, MP Vitalija Vonžutaitė was sent to prison for three years and the party's current leader, Parliamentary Vice-Speaker Vytautas Gapšys was imposed a fine of 35,000 litas.
