The bid was supported by delegates of the congress in an open ballot.

Romas Turonis, deputy chairman of the trade union, told BNS that the strike is supported by about 400 schools, adding that the final number of schools to join the strike would be clarified soon.

The trade union claims it has collected signatures of more than 15,000 teachers in support of the warning strike. The trade union has accused the Ministry of Science and Education of arrogance and failure to take teachers' demands into consideration.

According to the statement, the trade union's demands to revise the education financing scheme are backed by about 40 percent of Lithuania's 37,000 teachers.

After collecting the signatures, the trade union submitted its demands to the government and the Ministry of Education and Science on 18 January, calling for revision of the school financing scheme, postponement of the planned attestation of teachers, adjustments to pay so that it ensures a reasonable workload.
