Rescue services have received 20 reports on fallen trees or their branches blocking roads, a spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department told BNS on Tuesday, with the majority of such cases reported in Vilnius County and Varėna District, eastern Lithuania.
Trees also fell onto railways, and there was one report of a tree falling onto a car. Luckily, no injuries have been reported and there have been no reports on trees causing power disruptions.
The Lithuanian Radio said on Tuesday morning that snow caused an increase in traffic accidents in Vilnius, with several people sustaining minor injuries.
3,000 households without power
Around 3,000 households in Lithuania were without electricity on Tuesday morning after a storm with snow and strong winds hit the country on Monday evening, the power distribution company Lesto said.
Ervinas Pareigis of Lesto's dispatching control center, told BNS that most of the households, about 900, were in the region of Kaunas.
"Our teams worked overnight. We expect to restore electricity supply to many consumers on Tuesday," he said.
