John McCain, Boris Nemtsov and daughter of Yulia Tymoshenko to come to Vilnius

Prominent US Senator John McCain, one of Russia's opposition leaders Boris Nemtsov and Eugenia Tymoshenko, daughter of Ukraine's former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko, are expected at an international conference held by the Forum of Parliamentary Democracy in Vilnius next week.

Viktorija Bražiūnaitė, one of the organizers of the event, told BNS that McCain and Nemtsov had already confirmed their plans to come to Vilnius, while Tymoshenko's participation in the event would depend on the health condition of her mother who is in prison in Ukraine.

Other confirmed participants include Belorussian opposition leader Anatoly Lebedko, Ukrianian parliamentary European Integration Committee Chairman Borys Tarasyuk, human rights defender from Congo Guillaume Ngefa A. Andali, Georgian parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee Vice-Chairman Giorgi Kandelaki, and others.

Lithuania will be represented in the event by Parliamentary Speaker Irena Degutienė, Foreign Minister Audronius Ažubalis, parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Emanuelis Zingeris, MEP Vytautas Landsbergis, and others.

Invitations to the Vilnius event were sent to European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek, parliamentary speakers of Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova, leader of Russia's Choice movement Vladimir Ryzhkov. However, they said they would not be able to attend.

The international conference on the role of parliamentarians in enhancing democracies in Eastern Europe will discuss democratic perspectives of Eastern European nations, with a special focus on political developments in the region and challenges and visions of international integration and cooperation.

The event will also address the cases of Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine, analyze the main problems and opportunities faced by democratic development in these countries.

The conference is scheduled for 3 May, the Constitution Day celebrated in Lithuania and Poland.
