At the Tuesday hearing, the court is scheduled to hear representatives of state social security fund (SoDra) and the State Tax Inspectorate which had filed civil lawsuits against the Labor Party.
Prosecutor Saulius Verseckas has told journalists the SoDra and the State Tax Inspectorate filed civil lawsuits demanding compensation for unpaid taxes and social insurance contributions of over 3.8 million litas (over EUR 1 million) in value.
Defense lawyers on Tuesday objected to further case hearing without the participation of the Labor Party's leader Viktor Uspaskich as civil lawsuits had been filed against all defendants.
Judge Daiva Pranyte-Zalieckiene overruled the request and said that Uspaskich would be able to attend the hearing once he recovered.
„There's no basis for not to hear the case now. Uspaskich has an obligation to also come to the court once he recovers,“ the judge said.
The Labor Party is charged with failing to include more than 24 million litas (EUR 6.9 mln) in income and 23 million litas in spending into its books in the 2004-2006. The Labor Party's members strongly deny the accusations, saying the case is politically-motivated.
