About 95 percent of municipal waste was landfilled in Lithuania, almost unchanged from 95 percent in 2009, and 96 percent in 2008 and 2007. This is the third-highest rate after Romania's 99 percent and Bulgaria's 100 percent.
Latvia landfilled 91 percent of municipal waste in 2010 and Estonia - 77 percent.
Lithuania has stated intentions to have at least 50 percent of waste recycled or re-used by 2013.
