In Lithuania, 20.9 such deaths were reported per population of 1 million people in 2011.

The highest death rate among drug addicts was found in Estonia (135.7), followed by Norway (73.1), Finland (53.3), United Kingdom (52.3), Ireland (51.8), Denmark (49.8), Sweden (35.5), and Austria (35.3).

According to the report, the fewest drug-related deaths were confirmed in Romania (1) and Hungary (2) in 2011.

Europe's average death rate caused by overdose stands at 18 per 1 million residents of the 15-64 age group.

Although there is no data to prove it, scientists say that a number of drug addicts die of liver diseases, mainly hepatitis C. Accidents, murders and suicides are also among causes of death of drug addicts.
