The remains of 353 German troops, who were buried in Utena, northeastern Lithuania, during World War I and World War II will be reburied in the Vilnius cemetery, the Ministry of National Defense has announced.
Representatives of the German embassy in Lithuania, the Lithuanian Ministries of National Defense and Culture, the Lithuanian army, Utena District and Vilnius City Municipality will attend the reburial ceremony.
There are around 250 cemeteries in Lithuania where German troops killed during WWI and WWII are buried. Around 1,300 German troops and 90 soldiers of other countries, killed during WWI, are buried in the cemetery in Vingio park in Vilnius. Another 2,000 German troops, killed during WWII, are buried in the neighborhood.
