Lithuania’s urban population decreased by 1.36 percent, year-on-year, to 839,000 as of 1 January 2011, and its rural population shrank by 3.16 percent, to 1.391 million.
The population of the country’s intermediate regions decreased by 2.76 percent in the reporting period, to 1.015 million people.
Eurostat noted that due to administrative reasons, emigration recorded in Lithuania in 2010 may include emigration that took place over the previous years.
