The service had twice proposed to the Governmental Emergencies Commission to declare the state of emergency and would continue to pursue this goal, Jonas Milius, the head of the service, told BNS.
“The state of emergency shall be declared now instead of the time when the virus will be found in Lithuania, as written in legislation. That status won’t be too helpful then,” Milius said.
Lithuania has asked the European Commission for 10 million euros in funding to help build a fence that will keep wild animals from crossing its border with Belarus.
