The President's Office said Butvilas failed to abide by principles of justice, fairness and independence, also committing a gross violation of the requirements of Code of Judicial Ethics and other legal acts regulating judicial operations.
A pre-trial investigation revealed that Butvilas revised a court ruling retrospectively for his personal benefit.
"The judge's dishonest conduct and gross violations of the law were disclosed as a result of efficient cooperation among officers of the Special Investigation Service, prosecutors, and judges who sanctioned their actions," reads the press release from the President's Office.
Grybauskaitė suspended Butvilas' powers on 3 August.
Officers of the Šiauliai branch of the Special Investigation Service have brought jobbery suspicions against Butvilas.
